Our Investment Philosophy

A Buy and Sell Strategy — Fundamental and Technical Analysis

By combining the elements of both fundamental and technical analysis, our firm’s investment strategy is to determine not only what type of investment should be included in a client’s portfolio, but also when that investment should be bought or sold.

Our objective is to identify if a market (equity, fixed income, domestic or international) is in an up-trend or down-trend.  Our investments may focus on market index securities (i.e, S&P 500, Dow Jones, Nasdaq, All World Index, etc.), or we can drill down to individual sectors or industry groups (i.e., Energy, Utilities, Technology, Financials, etc.) to achieve the potential for alpha returns for our clients.

Managing Risk for Our Clients

We believe that constructing portfolios for our clients with investments that exhibit a positive trend provides an inherent built in margin of safety for each position. This margin of safety helps us increase our chances of success by buying investments with significant upside potential. Additionally, we believe our focus on market trends and cycles allow us to avoid weak and declining sectors of the market.

  • S&P 500: The Truth is in the Trend
The link above provides a chart of the S&P 500 ETF index over the last few years. Through the use of technical trends and moving averages (12 day and 50 day) it can be seen that there have been various times over the last few years when an investment in this index was appropriate. But the key to any investment strategy is to be proactive in determining when the investment makes sense for a client.
